An added layer of protection

Facilities Management and Custodial departments introduced electrostatic disinfecting application devices as a COVID-19 response measure. The electrostatic applicator gives a negative charge to the disinfecting solution as it exits the nozzle, allowing an even coat of solution that sticks to a targeted surface with 360-degree coverage.

Prior to campus reengagement in Summer 2020, frequently-touched surfaces such as handrails, door hardware, desktops, keyboards and chairs were thoroughly cleaned and treated with a residual antimicrobial product called “MicrobeCare,” which creates a barrier that kills and minimizes spread of microbes.

Application of MicrobeCare was among an extensive series of coronavirus mitigation measures implemented as a part of the university’s campus reengagement plan, measures which ranged from physical disinfection activities to expanded online course offerings and virus prevention education.
